API Oil Water Separator

API oil-water separator operates on a gravity-based principle and is designed according to API 421 standards, utilizing Stoke's Law for separation. The system works by leveraging the specific gravity differences between oil, water, and solids. Heavier solids settle at the bottom of the separator, while oil floats to the top, forming an oil layer. Water, with intermediate density, remains in the middle layer. To manage the layers, the separator employs a chain scraper system, slotted pipe skimmer, or rotary skimmer to remove the top oil layer. The bottom sediment layer is extracted using a chain and scraper arrangement or similar mechanism. The dimensions of API separators are specifically engineered to ensure that oil particles rise to the surface before the fluid exits the separator.

API Oil Water Separator Overview

An API oil-water separator uses gravity and Stokes' Law, following API 421 standards. It separates oil, water, and solids based on density: oil floats on top, solids settle at the bottom, and water stays in between. Oil and sediment are removed using skimmers and scrapers, ensuring effective separation.
